The first Nigerian message beep by Elcomserve

Elcomserve Nigeria has launched Nigeria’s first message beep service, a unifying chat platform that cuts across all spheres, and calibre of people.
The beep service can also be deployed on a simple java enabled phone, mid–range feature phones and the highly sophisticated smart-phones.
The chief executive officer of ElcomServe, Mr. Sinari Daranijo, said  Beep is a subscription-based service that provides unlimited messaging exchange for a weekly or monthly fixed fee.
According to Daranijo, Beep provides an easier way of communicating between two or more people and allows real time high level interaction.
“Beep is a simple, cool, trendy and exciting platform that enables subscribers connect with family, friends and loved ones at an affordable rate. It offers presence which is the ability to know when your friends, family members and colleagues are online and available to interact,” he added.
He described the product as specially designed with an African look and feel with black backgrounds, green, blue and white body with a very classy and simple look. The product is user friendly with easy to use navigational buttons and exciting chat box and localised menu language.
ccording to him, the company was motivated to launch the platform following its study of spending patterns, income and personality profile of Nigerians. “Nigerians like classy things, but can’t afford much. Nigerians like free things hence they patronise a lot of promotions with instant giveaways. Nigerians like to interact a lot, hence the high voice patronage.
“Nigerians are aggressive users of free text messaging to chat and interact,” the Elcomserve boss explained.
Elcomserve has over two decades of relevant experience developing cutting edge, world class solutions for its clients and has been actively involved in telecommunications sector for about 19 years.
Currently, it seeks to provide a messaging platform called the Simply Beep to enable subscribers communicate with their friends and loved ones.

Baby born with rosary in hand

Barely three months after the reported birth of a baby with a mini-Quran in Mushin area of Lagos State, another oddity has occurred in Sagamu, Ogun State as a woman was said to have delivered a baby boy with an Islamic rosary, otherwise known as Tesbeu.
Investigation by Sunday Sun revealed that the boy was delivered on Tuesday at Rotoluwa Maternity Home along Aiyepe Road at about 11.45pm.
Mrs. Gbemisola Hamsat, a 35-year-old mother of five, was said to have been delivered of the baby and the rosary.
Expectedly, the strange delivery has turned their 2, Odujoko Street, off Prison Road, residence into a Mecca of sorts as people thronged the area to confirm the tale.
The Matron of the Maternity Home, Mrs. Sarah Olurotimi Oloyede, a traditional birth attendant, confirmed that she took the delivery of the somewhat strange child.
Oloyede’s words: “I heard a sound of something dropping into the bed pan before the placenta came out.
“It sounded as if it was an iron or something with weight that dropped on it and when I checked it closely, I saw a rosary covered with thick blood.”
Mrs Oloyede said that when she took the rosary by the ‘tail’ to examine it properly, all the clotted blood on it fell off, leaving the shinning rosary.

Paralympians haveused up to 43 000 condoms already

Are the athletes taking part in the ongoing Paralympics in London for sex only or for sport reasons too? Well they may be there for the two reasons.According to the to what Ali Jawad, who was born without legs, but seems to have all of his other faculties intact said: “We’ll probably use about 90 percent of the condoms because we’re crazy. We get excited very easily. That’s why I’m going to the Paralympics, why I’ve worked so hard for four years, for the free condoms.”
Writing for Channel 4, the host broadcaster, James Ballardie, did his maths and came up with a total of almost 43 000 condoms that have been used so far in the ongoing Paralympics game.

The world may have to go into vegetarianism by 2060.

The world leading water scientist have issued a very stern warning about global food supplies, saying that the world's population may have to switch almost completely to a vegetarian diet over the next 40 years to avoid catastrophic shortages.
"There will not be enough water available on current croplands to produce food for the expected 9 billion population in 2050 if we follow current trends and changes towards diets common in western nations," the report by Malik Falkenmark and colleagues at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) said.
"There will be just enough water if the proportion of animal-based foods is limited to 5% of total calories and considerable regional water deficits can be met by a … reliable system of food trade."
 Dire warnings of water scarcity limiting food production come as Oxfam and the UN prepare for a possible second global food crisis in five years. Prices for staples such as corn and wheat have risen nearly 50% on international markets since June, triggered by severe droughts in the US and Russia, and weak monsoon rains in Asia. More than 18 million people are already facing serious food shortages across the Sahel.
"Nine hundred million people already go hungry and 2 billion people are malnourished in spite of the fact that per capita food production continues to increase," they said. "With 70% of all available water being in agriculture, growing more food to feed an additional 2 billion people by 2050 will place greater pressure on available water and land."
The report is being released at the start of the annual world water conference in Stockholm, Sweden, where 2,500 politicians, UN bodies, non-governmental groups and researchers from 120 countries meet to address global water supply problems.

Scientists Successfully ‘Hack’ Brain To Obtain Private Data

It sounds like something out of the movie “Johnny Mnemonic,” but scientists have successfully been able to “hack” a brain with a device that’s easily available on the open market.

Researchers from the University of California and University of Oxford in Geneva figured out a way to pluck sensitive information from a person’s head, such as PIN numbers and bank information.

The scientists took an off-the-shelf Emotiv brain-computer interface, a device that costs around $299, which allows users to interact with their computers by thought.

The scientists then sat their subjects in front of a computer screen and showed them images of banks, people, and PIN numbers. They then tracked the readings coming off of the brain, specifically the P300 signal.

The P300 signal is typically given off when a person recognizes something meaningful, such as someone or something they interact with on a regular basis.

Scientists that conducted the experiment found they could reduce the randomness of the images by 15 to 40 percent, giving them a better chance of guessing the correct answer.

Another interesting facet about the experiments is how the P300 signal could be read for lie detection.

In the paper that the scientists released, they state that “the P300 can be used as a discriminative feature in detecting whether or not the relevant information is stored in the subject’s memory.

“For this reason, a GKT based on the P300 has a promising use within interrogation protocols that enable detection of potential criminal details held by the suspect,” the researchers said.

However, scientists say this way of lie detection is “vulnerable to specific countermeasures,” but not as many compared to a traditional lie detector.

This could only be the beginning of a new form of fraud. Scientists say that a person with their guard lowered could be “easily engaged into ‘mind games’ that camouflage the interrogation of the user and make them more cooperative.”

Also, much like other household electronics, “the ever increasing quality of devices, success rates of attacks will likely improve.”

The collision of a bus and a trailer caused deaths and injuries

A midnight accident at Obada-Oko along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway on Monday night claimed 10 lives and left one person critically injured.
The accident occurred when the passenger bus with Lagos registration number CZ 269 MUS collided with a trailer around midnight.
The accident was confirmed by the Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Itori Unit Command, Mr. Fatai Bakare.
Bakare stated that the Lagos-bound trailer was driving on the inward Abeokuta lane when it collided with the bus at Obada-Oko Adigbe Junction.
“All the corpses have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abeokuta and Ifo General Hospital.
“The only survivor is critically injured and receiving treatment at FMC.
“Again, we have to say it that it is very important for motorists to keep to their lane while on the highway to forestall future occurrence, “Bakare said.

Okorocha bans Monarch from speaking English Language

Governor Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha of Imo State has every monarch in the state from speakjing english in publ8ic forums or face the risk of loosing their traditional stool.
This directive was giving last week by the governor while inaugurating the state’s Imo Traditional Rulers Parliament and Community Government council.
He urged them to use the forum to project the ideals of igbo language and culture.
The governor insisted that the native language and traditions must not be allowed to go into extinction, adding that the parliament would afford the monarchs opportunity to deal sincerely and creditably with the issue of customary cases and matters in their various domains according to the rule of law.
But is banning people from speaking the official language the best way to promote culture?

A disease like AIDS has been discovered in Asia

 Researchers have identified a mysterious new disease that has left scores of people in Asia and some in the US with AIDS-like symptoms even though they are not infected with HIV.
They said the disease is not contagious,but when it get into the the body it damage the bimmune system of the patient making them unable to fend off  germs as healthy people do.
A researcher even said we shoulden't panick as they are presently working on the disease,but seeing the picture below i think we really need to start panicking now.
